The Rotary Club of Ayer, Harvard, Shirley and Devens announced the winner of the 22nd Annual Ducky Wucky River Race held on Saturday was Sue Holmes of Harvard. Holmes won the grand prize of dinner for two anywhere in the world after her adopted rubbery ducky named Dozer crossed the finish line first.
The rubber duck adopted by Holmes competed against nearly 4,000 ducks in this year’s race on the Nashua River in Harvard. In addition to the grand prize, 43 other entrants won prizes which are listed below and at www.AyerRotary.com.
Proceeds from this and other Rotary Club fundraisers benefit many charitable causes, including local food pantries, high school scholarships, youth sports programs and international relief efforts.
“Thank you to Sue Holmes, to everyone who entered this year’s Ducky Wucky Race and to our terrific race sponsors who all supported this great community event that helps the Rotary Club provide assistance to those in need both here at home and across the globe,” said Melissa Fetterhoff, the club’s president for 2011-2012.
This year’s race sponsors were: Ayer Moving and Storage, the Bull Run Restaurant, Closets by Design, Gervais Ford, the Green Turtle Bed and Breakfast, IC Federal Credit Union, Roux Travel, Nashoba Valley Medical Center, and North Middlesex Savings Bank.
Holmes purchased the ticket from the Harvard Schools Trust, which for many years has been a ticket-selling partner with the Ayer Rotary Club.
The club splits a portion of the ticket sales with its ticket-selling partners that also include Loaves and Fishes, Groton-Pepperell Rotary Club and the Merrimack Valley Rotary Club.
Prior to the race, the Rotary Club held the 60th Annual Apple Blossom Festival on Harvard Common featuring more than 50 craft vendors as well as rides on an antique fire engine and live music.
