Infant Storytime ~ Mother Goose on the Loose (no sign-up) – Ages 0 – 2: Tuesdays & Thursdays at 10:30

Mother Goose on the Loose is an early literacy program that uses rhymes and songs to help pre-reading children get ready for reading. It incorporates music, movement, ritual, repetition, positive reinforcement, developmental tips, nursery rhymes, illustrations, puppets, musical instruments, colored scarves, and book reading into a fun-filled 45 minute session for infants to 2-year-olds and caregivers (older siblings also welcome). Ask to be put on the email list for last minute schedule changes.

Storytime for 2’s & 3’s (5 week session begins 4/23 ~ pre-registration required) – Ages 2 & 3: Mondays and Wednesdays

This 20 to 30 minute interactive theme-based storytime includes songs, simple stories, feltboard stories, creative dramatics, and fingerplays appropriate for children aged 2 & 3 years old. Register now for the next 5 week session which begins on 4/23 or 4/25 and runs through 5/21 or 5/23. Pre-registration required: Limit of 12 children and their caregivers per time slot.

Art & Stories for 4’s & 5’s (no sign-up required) – Ages 4 & 5 and up: Thursdays at 2:00

This 30 to 45 minute program, appropriate for children ages 4 to 7, begins with a few longer picturebook stories, then ends with a process art project that encourages preschoolers to explore art materials in an open-ended, creative manner. Some weeks we’ll also have storytelling with the library’s puppets or feltboard stories – stories told with felt pieces!

Saturday Storytimes (no sign-up required) – Ages 4 to 7: Saturday, May 19 at 11:00

Teen volunteers lead these fun drop-in, half-hour Saturday Storytimes for children ages 4 to 7 and their caregivers. The theme for 5/19 is Ducks.

Children’s Programs

Book Gobblers – Grades 1 through 5: Wednesday, April 25 at 3:30 PM

Book Gobblers is the library’s story program for older kids only – younger children not allowed! Come listen to selections from excellent chapter books, poetry by favorite poets, and explore longer picture books for older readers. Drop-in ~ come for the whole hour, or stay for just one or two stories.

Science in Motion with Robert Rivest, Comic Mime – All Ages: Tuesday, May 1 at 1:30 PM

Science in Motion is a mesmerizing blend of comedy and science that enthralls both children and adults. Robert Rivest comically explores how scientists and artists see the world around us. Through an exciting use of mime comedy and informative science tie-ins, Robert Rivest inspires his audience to see science in a new light. His comic examples of everyday science are educational gems, and his enthusiasm for science is infectious. And Science in Motion is full of audience participation and laugh-out-loud interactive pieces. Robert Rivest has presented over 5,000 performances in 11 countries in Europe, Africa, and across the United States. A student of Marcel Marceau, Robert trained for over 10 years with internationally renowned masters of mime, dance, theater, and improvisation; today he is one of the most prolific mime artists in the world. Family Movie Night! Movie is Rated PG – All Ages: Friday, May 4 at 6:30 PM

Popcorn and water will be served. Please pre-register, so we know how much popcorn to buy!

Start U. Reading Storytime with Buzz Lightyear – All Ages: Saturday, May 5 at 11:00 AM

Please join us for a special reading event when the U.Fund Start U. Reading Series visits the library! Bring your cameras; stories will be read to the children, followed by a photo opportunity with Buzz Lightyear. Please pre-register.

Game Hour & Chess Club – Grades 3 to 6: Thursdays from 4:00 to 5:00

These drop-in, after school programs for children in grades 3 to 6 is facilitated by teen volunteers. Play an assortment of great games, including Set, Scrabble, Mille Bornes, Apples to Apples, Slamwich, Quiddler, and Hoopla. Or, join in with the Chess Club and play chess with other chess enthusiasts!

The 3rd Grade Book is: “Secrets at Sea” by Richard Peck. The 4th Grade Book is: “Missing on Superstition Mountain” by Elise Broach. The 5th Grade Book is: “Magyk” by Angie Sage. The 6th Grade Book is: “Eye of the Crow” by Shane Peacock. Join this once-monthly book group for a lively book discussion and a yummy snack of bagels & cream cheese. Book group members should read all of the book prior to the group meeting. New members are always welcome ~ please pre-register.

Adult Programs

The Brown Bag Book Club is held the third Wednesday of every month at noon.

Drop-ins are welcome! The next meeting will be held on April 18 in the Small Conference Room to discuss the following book: “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter” by Carson McCullers.
