AYER — In accordance with MassDEP’s revised Water Management Act Permit, a mandatory water ban is in effect on nonessential outside water use between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. from May 1 through September 30. Nonessential outdoor water uses include:

* irrigation of lawns via sprinklers or automatic irrigation system

* washing of vehicles, except in a commercial car wash or as necessary for operator safety

* washing of exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks, except as necessary to apply surface treatments such as paint, preservatives, stucco, pavement or cement.

Enforcement is as follows:

First violation: Violators shall be issued a written warning.

Second violation: Violators shall be issued a fine of $100.

Third violation: Violator’s service shall be shut off and only restored when any previously issued fines are paid along with a $20 restoration fee.
