The first and last bands have been booked for the Shirley Hoedown on June 2. This event on Shirley Common will start at noon with the flag raising and opening of all the food and crafts booths. The Ayer-Shirley Middle School Band will be the first to perform at 12:15. The last band of the day will be the Nashoba Valley Band which will perform at 4:30 pm. In between, there will be Irish Step Dancing, a magic show, a Crazy Hat Parade, the bouncy castle and an egg toss contest. The Hoedown is the place where family members of all ages come to enjoy an afternoon. It is also where many of the local non-profit organizations earn money for worthy projects. Bailey Morse has already signed up to sell t-shirts to support breast cancer awareness..

ShirleyArts! has signed up to sell hamburgers, chips and soft drinks while the Boy Scouts will sell sausages. The Shirley Historical Society will be back with its barbecue chicken, assorted home-made salads, and Shirley souvenirs. The Center Town Hall Committee will be on hand with chili. Anyone interested in helping should contact Meredith at 978-425-9328 or email mail@shirleyhistory.org or pick up a Hoedown registration form at the Museum or at Hazen Library.

There is space for lots of crafts tables, information booths and flea market items. Vendors are encouraged to register early so they can be included in announcements.
