The Crusaders put it all together and walloped the visiting Red Raiders 15-0 in a game shortened to 4 1/2 innings because of the mercy rule.
Doug Smith and Alex Dhionis combined to hurl a no-hitter for the Crusaders. Smith worked the first three innings and struck out seven and walked three. Dhionis picked up a strikeout over his two inning stint.
Senior catcher John Flanagan paced the potent Groton-Dunstable offense, going a perfect 4-4 with two singles, two doubles, seven runs-batted-in and three runs scored.
Also contributing offensively for the Crusaders were Josh Acaba, who was 2-2 with a run scored and an RBI, and Mike Keating, who finished 1-1 with three runs-batted-in.
Groton-Dunstable 19 North Middlesex 9
The Lady Crusaders rolled past the Patriots, keyed by the 1-2 punch of senior Erika Eipp and sophomore Livy Penney. Eipp scored six goals in the contest while Penney added five goals and two assists. Emma Ordemann also enjoyed a productive game with a pair of goals while Olivia Rubeski played a strong all-around game.
Leading North Middlesex with two goals apiece were Tori Gray, Chapel Guarnieri and Mackenzie Gray
Westboro 17 North Middlesex 4
The powerful Rangers put together a strong effort to roll past the Lady Patriots.
Tori Gray scored twice for North Middlesex, while Madison Ozog and Chapel Guarnieri added a goal each.
Groton-Dunstable 13 Oakmont 6
The Crusaders improved to 3-3 with a strong overall effort to defeat the Spartans, who suffered only their second defeat, against five victories. Groton-Dunstable rolled to an 8-3 halftime advantage and never looked back.
Matt Manning led Groton-Dunstable with four goals and an assist while Kyle McCullough added a goal and two assists. Quintin Forbes and Jack Barrett each had a goal and an assist, while Steve Mullins, Ben Lutz and William Stewart scored single goals.
Senior goaltender Mike Kerwin backboned the win with 18 saves, while David Sweet distributed the ball well and had two assists.
Shrewsbury 9 Groton-Dunstable 7
The Crusaders provided a stern test for the Colonials before dropping a close game.
Matt Manning led Groton-Dunstable with three goals, followed by Hayden Lynch with two goals, and Dave Sweet and Steve Mullins with a tally apiece.
Crusader goaltender Mike Kerwin stopped 16 shots in the contest.
Doherty 75 North Middlesex 60
Despite a heroic effort from Andrea Fanciullo, the North Middlesex girls track team fell to Doherty 75-60.
Fanciullo was immense, capturing the high jump, the long jump and the 100 hurdles, as well as anchoring the Lady Patriots victorious 4 X 100 meter relay team. Also competing on the 4 X 100 relay team were Tanisha McGreevy, Emily Church and Marissa Spagnolo.
Church added golds in both the triple jump and the 100 meter dash, while McGreevy won the javelin, and Laurel Haines prevailed in the pole vault.
North Middlesex is now 0-4.
Nashoba 11 North Middlesex 0
The Chieftains improved to 5-1 for the season as Emily Sargent turned in a dominant effort on the mound, allowing no hits over the first five innings while striking out 10. Alison Gafney pitched the final two innings for Nashoba, allowing one hit.
Emily Rapoza had the lone hit for the Lady Patriots, a single in the sixth inning.
Second baseman Danielle Cobleigh made the defensive play of the game, turning an unassisted double play.
