Remember your dog’s 2012 license
2012 licenses cost $15 per dog. Any past due licenses for previous years will also need to be paid in order to purchase a current year’s license.
On Feb. 1 or after, a $5 late fee applies, in accordance with town bylaw. The late fee does not apply if the dog is new to town less than a month or is less than six months of age. Dog licenses in another Massachusetts town that are transferring to Shirley are entitled to a transfer license at no cost.
For 2012 kennel license rates, contact the town clerk at 978-425-2600, ext. 205. A valid rabies certificate needs to be included with your request or be on file with the town clerk’s office.
Dog Licenses may be purchased by mailing your request to the town clerk’s office at 7 Keady Way, Shirley, MA 01464. Please mail the following:
* a check made out to the Town of Shirley ($15 until Jan 31, $20 afterward) for each 2012 dog license.
* a self-addressed stamped envelope (include postage of $0.44 for 1 to 2 licenses and $0.61 for 3 to 4 licenses)
* a valid rabies certificate (unless we already have one on file for your pet). The certificate will be mailed back to you.
* a completed 2012 dog license application or a note with the following information: owner’s name, street address, mailing address, telephone number (please indicate if it is unlisted), name of dog, breed, color, approximate date of birth, and gender of dog (male, male neutered, female or female spayed).
Blank dog-license applications are also available at the town clerk’s office and at the Hazen Memorial Library.
Dog licenses may also be purchased in person at the town clerk’s office.
Low-cost rabies clinics are held in March and April by the Nashoba Associated Boards of Health www.nashoba.org in conjunction with local veterinarians.
Winter Parking Ban ends April 15
The winter parking ban will be in effect from Nov. 15 through April 15. The parking ban prohibits the parking of any motor vehicle on streets or sidewalks throughout town, overnight or during snowstorms. The purpose of the parking ban is to assist the Department of Public Works with snow and ice-removal operations. The Shirley Police Department has been charged with the responsibility on enforcing this ban.
