AYER — An Ayer man was arrested late Thursday, March 1 and charged with attempted murder and assault and battery charges for attacking his girlfriend.
Michael Vincent Lemire, 29, of Cambridge Street was ordered held on $2,500 cash bail following his arraignment on Friday, March 2 at Ayer District Court. Middlesex County Assistant District Attorney Felicia Sullivan is prosecuting the case for the state. Lemire returns to court on March 29 for a pretrial conference.
Ayer Police Lt. Brian Gill said the girlfriend victim fled the man’s apartment “after being struck in the face and strangled.” As she ran, she “encountered a Good Samaritan on Main Street” who escorted the woman to the Ayer Fire station at 1 West Main Street.
The victim was transported by Ayer Ambulance to Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer for treatment of her injuries. Meanwhile, Ayer Police officers visited the suspect’s Cambridge Street residence and made the arrest.
