AYER – It was a twofer for the Ayer Police Department on Feb. 18. Within an hour of the arrest of an Ayer woman, her husband was arrested on unrelated matters.

First, at thirty minutes past midnight, officers arrested Erin Coates, 46, of Willard Street as she operated a car on West Main Street. Coates was allegedly operating a motor vehicle after her licensed had been suspended and allegedly had a minor equipment violation with her vehicle.

Then at 1:30 a.m., Todd Coates, 35, was placed under arrest for two outstanding warrants issued out of Ayer District Court. Ayer Police Lieutenant Brian Gill said the husband came in to bail out his wife. The husband was “known to have warrants” and so was taken into custody.
