TOWNSEND — This was not your average request for a tow.

Emergency crews were called to a wooded area near 215 Lunenburg Road yesterday afternoon after a horse got stuck in the mud as it was being ridden by a young man, according to published reports. A dispatcher said firefighters responded at about 2:30 p.m.

Fox25 News said the 24-year-old horse named “Kangaroo” was being ridden in a swampy wooded area when it slipped on ice and got lodged in mud. Crews freed the horse using an all-terrain vehicle and walked it out of the woods. Neither were hurt, according to Fox25 News.
