AYER — The 15-year-old boy who was struck by two vehicles on West Main Street in the downtown on Wednesday night was pronounced dead after he was transferred to Nashoba Valley Medical Center, Ayer police said Thursday morning.
A preliminary investigation indicates the boy, who friends have identified as Corey Buxton of Shirley, tried to run across West Main Street and was struck by a vehicle traveling west and then one traveling east, police said.
Police were called to the scene at approximately 7:11 p.m Wednesday. An Ayer Fire Department ambulance had transported the boy to the medical center in Ayer.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. There may be other persons besides Buxton involved with the collision, police said.
Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section are assisting the Ayer Police with the investigation.
