TOWNSEND — Townsend VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary are pleased to announce the winners of their Patriot’s Pen essay competition for students in grades six through eight.

Sixty students at Hawthorne Brook Middle School in Townsend entered the competition.

The $100 first-place local award will be presented to Casey Breen of Townsend. Judy Bosch of Ashby will receive the $70 second-place award, while the $40 third-place award will go to Hannah Bagley of Townsend.

These awards will be presented to the winners at a special awards program to be held at the Townsend VFW later in the school year.

Rules of this national VFW and Ladies Auxiliary competition permit one entry to be forwarded into the District level of competition for each 15 entries or fraction thereof, received at the local level. As a result, the essay of Judy Bosch first in the District #15 VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary Patriot’s Pen competition. Judy will be receiving an additional cash award for that accomplishment.
