The Christmas season is upon us. Three of the Ayer selectmen decided to give the elderly homeowners a special gift of an 8 percent increase in our property taxes.

I won’t have to worry now how to spend the small 3 percent raise I will receive from Social Security. Some towns are talking about trying to help the elderly by freezing the tax rate for them, but three Ayer selectmen won’t be happy until the elderly can’t afford to stay in their homes.

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on you three selectmen.

I hope that someday the elderly organize their own committee and fight for the bad decisions that are being made by the majority of the selectmen. The elderly will get no respect until they organize. Hopefully that will come soon.We have become the forgotten people. I have watched all the BOS meetings that are televised live and hear them take care of the schools, businesses, police, Fire Department and other departments, but I have never heard a selectman say “how can we help the struggling seniors stay in their home.”

Ayer is not a rich town; it is a good town; it is a small town, but it is also a poor town.

I wish nothing to the three inconsiderate selectmen; to the other two selectmen, I wish you a very Merry Christmas!
