AYER — An Ayer household allegedly erupted into a slug fest, landing a man and woman in court on assault and battery charges.

Melissa Donell, 22, and her boyfriend Christopher Rinaldi, 18, were arrested on Dec. 5 at their Fletcher Street residence. Each faces assault and battery charges for a mêlée allegedly turned violent.

Donnell was in an argument with a female relative that escalated to a point where Donnell struck the female relative in the face. The boyfriend of the female victim stood up to defend his girlfriend from Donnell’s alleged aggression.

And that’s when Rinaldi allegedly hopped into the fray to defend Donnell. Rinaldi is accused of striking the female victim’s boyfriend in the face.

According to police, the foursome lives under one roof on Fletcher Street.
