Pepperell honors firefighters’ efforts at annual celebration


PEPPERELL — Several town firefighters were recognized during the town’s annual Firefighter Awards and Appreciation Night. The event, held Monday at the VFW, recognizes new personnel, promotions, service anniversaries and other accolades.

Firefighters Matthew Maciel and William Brooks were recognized for passing their Emergency Medical Technician certifications.

Deputy Chief Milton Blood was honored with a bronze firefighter statue for his years of being captain in Company One. Blood’s promotion means he will now be stationed out of the chief’s office.

Also from Company One, firefighter EMTs Shaun Shattuck and Derek Franzek received five-year service pins and firefighter Vinnie Messina received a 15-year service pin. Capt. Mike Daughert and firefighter Tim Morine each received 10-year pins and firefighter EMT Kevin Pena received a five-year pin, all three are from Combination Company. Firefighter EMT Rich Lane, from the Ladder Company, received a five-year pin.

To honor retiree Lt. Chris Thielbar, the Combination Company awarded him with a fire-alarm box.

Deputy Chief Peter Shattuck also thanked the Ladies Auxilary for all thier help

“They help out in a big way,” he said. “No matter the weather, they always step up and it’s a great feeling to see them coming down the street.”

Donelan’s gift certificates, fruit baskets and other food prizes were raffled off as well.
