GROTON — The Annual Audubon 112th Christmas Bird Count for the Groton Oxbow area is set for Sunday, Dec. 18. Its not too late to join.

This annual event is a very important way to collect data to track trends in bird populations and species distribution.

The CBC is a great activity which encourages all ages to observe the natural world around them, get out, exercise and match up the names, and songs to the birds.

It also is unique in that there are two options for bird watching.

First, routes are established for groups and individuals who cover specific town areas by observing birds in the field. Some observers go on early morning owl prowls to represent the night-time predators.

Second, there is an option for the backyard birders to watch their feeders.

Finally, both the species and number of birds are tallied and reported to town coordinators, for the final count-down.

Novice, and advanced bird watchers are all encouraged to participate in this unique event. For further information contact area coordinators:
