PLYMOUTH — Rising Star East Martial Arts head instructor, Sensei John E. Page, was recently awarded the title of Shihan by George Mattson, president and founder of the International Uechi Karate Federation, at the annual Summerfest.

The title of Shihan translates as master instructor and is a Japanese honorific title designating Expert Licensure Certification. In modern day karate, these titles are much more difficult to achieve than typical black belt ranks and are not assigned automatically based on rank or seniority but rather on significant contributions to the karate community at large.

Rising Star East Martial Arts offers classes for students ages 4 to104. The head instructor is John Page, affiliated with the International Uechi Ryu Karate Federation, a member of that organization’s Committee for Dojo Development, the legal counsel to the Board of Advisers and a certified instructor and a third degree Black Belt. Rising Star East also offers a program of cardio kickboxing.

To register or for additional program information contact John Page at 978-407-5595 or email to Risingstareast@aol.com or the web at www.risingstareastmartialarts.com.
