TOWNSEND — The Townsend Military band is scheduled to play a concert on the Townsend Common every Thursday evening through the end of August, weather permitting.

The band begins playing at 7:30 p.m., but the local organizations sponsoring the lawn party held in conjunction with these concerts usually have food available for purchase by at least 6:45 p.m.

Townsend Scout groups will be hosting the lawn party at the Aug. 18 Townsend Military Band concert. Boy Scout Troop 10 will be selling hot dogs, hamburgers, sausages, cold soda, and bottled water.

Boy Scout Troop 81 will be offering dog dogs, hamburgers, popcorn, hot coffee and cold soda for sale.

Cub Scout Pack 11 will have a bouncy house and the ring toss, fishing toss, bean bag toss, bowling and skee ball games set up on the common during the concert.

Pack 11 will also have baked goods for sale.

Cub Pack 12 will be selling glow bracelets, sticks and squishy ball and operating the lollipop tree, firemen’s ring toss, fisherman’s Frisbee toss and putt putt golf games.

The Girl Scout Squannacook Unit will be offering face painting and an opportunity to decorate your own cupcake. The Girl Scouts will also be running a putt putt game and a whiffle ball game.

The Townsend Military Band, under the direction of Jon Nicholson, will open its concert at 7:30 p.m. and close at 9:30 p.m. with “America, the Beautiful”” and the “Star Spangled Banner.”
