BLUEHILL, MAINE — It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Thonis Duncan on Aug. 5, 2011, after a long struggle with multiple myeloma.

Mary was born on May 17, 1958 in Fitchburg. She grew up in Townsend and graduated from North Middlesex Regional High School in 1976.

She was a great artist, a published author of four books, a loving wife to Dan; the best sister and daughter anyone could ever ask for; and best of all, the best friend you could ever want to have.

She was loved by many, but especially her husband Daniel E. Duncan, who passed away suddenly on June 2, 2011. Mary was predeceased by her mother, Yvonne Poitras Thonis, and her brother, John Thonis, both of Townsend. She is survived by her father, Paul Thonis, of Leominster, her brother, Thomas Thonis, of Townsend, her sister, Cathy Emmons, of South Berwick, ME, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Donations may be made in Mary’s memory to the Maine Cancer Foundation, 170 US Route one, Falmouth, Maine 04105, or the Gosnell House, c/o Hospice of Southern Maine, Att.: Development 180 US Route One, #1 Scarborough, ME 04074.

Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family. Dennett, Craig & Pate, Scarborough, Maine, is in charge of the arrangements.
