TOWNSEND — Hey musicians, have you considered taking your talent in a new direction?

There’s an opportunity and an app for that. The Townsend Meeting Hall Gallery Committee invites area musicians to participate in an iPad concert, certain to take Townsend in a new direction.

Since the gallery in the Townsend Meeting Hall opened in October 2010, it has been the place to see and be seen, and now it’s time to launch the venue as a place to be heard. The current exhibit at the gallery challenged artists to take their craft in a new direction, encouraging painters for example to use a new medium. Fiber crafters were invited to contribute to a project installed on the pillars at the Meeting Hall. The concert will be performed at the artist’s reception on Saturday, Sept. 10, at 1 p.m.

A peek at iPad concerts can be found on YouTube. The most popular is a Christmas concert and the most recent a “Flight of the Bumblebee” rendition at San Francisco’s Symphony Hall.

Rehearsals for this history-making event are most likely to start in mid-August for the Sept. 10 performance. Times and music to be determined by the group.
