On behalf of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the United States Postal Service and The National Rural Letter Carrier’s Association, The Ayer Post Office is pleased to announce their participation in the annual food drive on Saturday, May 14, to locally benefit Loaves and Fishes.

Simply leave nonperishable food items by your mailbox May 14 and they will be picked up by employees at the Ayer Post Office. As always, we do maintain a food drop box in our lobby at 1 Columbia St. all year-round.

Our food drive here in Ayer last year produced over 4,400 pounds of food that was donated to the Loaves and Fishes local food pantry, which has served Devens, Groton, Harvard, Littleton and Shirley since 1983. Nationwide USPS letter carriers collected an awe-inspiring 73.4 million pounds of food for the needy last year; it was the seventh consecutive year more than 73 million pounds were collected. This brought the total for the drive’s 18 years to over 1 billion pounds of food.

Research indicates that 33.5 million Americans cannot afford the food they need to maintain good health and 13 million American children under the age of 18 are hungry.

We are pleased to join fellow postal employees across the country on May 14, proving once again that communities that work together can achieve amazing goals.

Your generous support of the food drive will do much to help the hungry.

Postmaster, Ayer
