REGION — Bromfield’s girls alpine ski team brought home the silver State finalist trophy, capturing second place in the MIAA State Championships at Berkshire East Ski Area.
Bromfield’s ladies raced to within three points of eventual-champion Marblehead in the morning’s giant slalom event, while building a dominant lead over third-place Notre Dame Academy of Hingham. Marblehead pulled away in the afternoon’s slalom event, with Bromfield securing second place overall with solid runs over a deteriorating course.
Freshman Sarah Rowse continued a season-long hot streak, winning the event by 3/100 of a second over Marbleahead’s top skier. Junior Jackie Sampson was next in line for the Lady Trojans in 12th place, and senior Tory Sowizral racked up strong points with a 17th-place finish.
Rowse once again led the Lady Trojans over the slalom finish line in 9th place, with Sampson cracking the top 15 again, and Sowizral not far behind to lock up the Finalist trophy. Freshman Gabrielle Doben also represented the Bromfield ladies, finishing in the top half of the pack in the giant slalom before hooking a gate and crashing out on the slalom course in the afternoon.
Without a third qualifying teammate to compete for team honors, two Bromfield junior boys, Erik Johnson and Sam Elkind, raced for individual honors, and both skied to their best results at States to date.
