AYER — Joseph F. Drown, 67, of Snake Hill Road, formerly a longtime resident of Shirley, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at University of Massachusetts Memorial Hospital in Worcester.

Mr. Drown was born in Springfield, July 15, 1943, the son of Kenneth and Genevieve (Oszajca) Drown, and resided many years in Shirley before moving to Ayer two years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mildred I. “Mickey” Drown; two daughters and a son-in-law, Evelyn M. and Edward Peabody of Wakefield, and Kimberley A. Drown of Shirley; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Bert Buthen of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a beloved granddaughter, Nina Carpenter.

For 20 years Mr. Drown served his country in the U.S. Army, retiring in November 1982 at the rank of Sergeant First Class. Following his retirement from the armed forces, he worked as a civil servant at Fort Devens as well as the U.S. Military Entrance Processing Command Center in Boston, retiring in 2001.

A funeral service will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 11, at the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road (Route 2A), Ayer. Please see www.andersonfuneral.com for additional information. Burial will be at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Cemetery, Winchendon.
