Sherwood Carlson Libby, 96, died peacefully on Feb. 10, 2011. He was born Jan. 30, 1915 in Abbot, Maine, the son of Manley M. and Edith M. (Carlson) Libby. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Evangeline (Peterson) Libby, who passed away in 2005.

Mr. Libby was a graduate of Milo High School in 1933, and worked many years at Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Hyde Park. He later returned to Maine and worked at the Bangor YWCA, retiring in 1977. He was a Master Mason of the Eliot-Hyde Park Lodge for more than 60 years.

He enjoyed collecting and chronicling news and history articles, as well as writing journals of his life. He moved to Pepperell in 2008 from Bangor, Maine, and he made many friends at Babbitassit Village.

He leaves a son, Eugene Libby and his wife Carolyn, of Chepachet, R.I.; a daughter, Elaine Thibodeau, of St. Cloud, Fla.; five grandchildren, Deb Carney, of Pepperell, Christine Brady and her husband Christian, of Leominster, Terri Brandt, of Chepachet, R.I., Noel Libby, of Orting, Wash., and David Libby and his wife Dana, of Olympia, Wash. He leaves a sister, Lillian Crocker of Bangor, Maine, and a brother, Seabury Libby and his wife Cynthia, of Putnam, Conn. He also leaves 13 great-grandchildren, Tessa, Tia, Trevor, and Trinity Brandt, Shayna Carney, Jordan, Madison and Taylor Brady, Aleric Libby, and Stefan, Adam, Bradford and Nathan Libby; and nieces and nephew, Karen Libby, Diane Angelides and Kevin Libby.

Memorial services will be held privately by the family.
