Thomas (Tom) Nelson Fernacz Sr., 71, of Pepperell, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010 surrounded by his loving family at Nashoba Medical Hospital in Ayer. He was born March 7, 1939 in Pittsburgh, Penn., son of Martha (Ries) Fernacz and the late Nicholas J. Fernacz. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia (Haslett) Fernacz, who died in 2009.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in the 57th Air Rescue squadron (MATS). He served our country for eight years. His first duty station was in Scotland.

He was a longtime employee of Digital Equipment Corporation. He worked as a computer Instructor before retiring in 1991.

He is survived by his children, David Fernacz and his wife Lisa, of Nashua; Michael Fernacz and his wife Deanna, of Shrewsbury; Marcy Belmore and her husband Danny, of Townsend; Cindy Bjork and her husband Donny, of Townsend; and Thomas Fernacz Jr. and his wife Sabrina, of Ashby; his grandchildren, Samantha, David, Taryn, Danielle, Shawn, Evan, Michael and Nicholas. He is also survived by his mother, Martha Pedder, and brothers, Darryl Fernacz, Jerald Fernacz and Richard Fernacz, all of Pittsburgh, Penn.

Visiting hours are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hamilton-McGaffigan Funeral Home, 37 Main St. (Route 113), Pepperell. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Funeral services will be private.
