There’s a new organization in Townsend. Chartered in September, Townsend VFW Post 6538 is pleased to announce the formation of a Men’s Auxiliary. Already there are 25 members and the group hopes to quickly add more.

Membership is limited to husbands, widowers, fathers, grandfathers, sons, grandsons, brothers or half-brothers, who attained that status prior to age 16, of persons eligible for membership in the VFW. Members must be at least 16 years of age. Proof of that person’s eligibility is required. The purpose of the organization is to support the activities of Townsend VFW Post 6538 through social interaction and community service. Monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Townsend VFW and last up to an hour. Yearly dues are $20 and members are welcome at the Townsend VFW.

“We’re off to a fast start,” stated Auxiliary President Larry Hartnett. “So far, we’ve participated in two flea markets and a meat bingo raffle.” Those seeking information should attend a meeting, stop in at the Townsend VFW or contact 978-597-1890 or larrylard1@verizon.net. Hartnett added: “We are excited to be part of a great organization and we hope we can welcome you into our group.” Those interested can also contact Secretary Rick Miller at 603-878-4568 or at rmpm342@myfairpoint.net.
