The second annual Thanksgiving pie sale will be held this year on Nov. 23 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in St. Anthony’s Parish Hall for the benefit of the Shirley Friendship Fund.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this cause, the Friendship Fund exists to lend a helping hand to Shirley families and seniors in temporary need. For over 30 years, the organization has been providing such things as help toward electric and fuel costs, epi-pens for the school nurse and travel or parking costs for families with loved ones who are hospitalized.

The main event and expenses for the Friendship Fund come during the holiday season. Last year, the Friendship Fund, along with the Fire Department, provided 50 Shirley families with food and gift baskets. They also aided and acknowledged 80 seniors. The children’s gift baskets cost about $50 and include pajamas, an outfit and toy or gift card.

This year, although there are many calls for your charitable dollars, I urge you to use some of them locally and support the Friendship Fund.

All donations will be gratefully accepted. Checks may be made payable to The Shirley Friendship Fund at P.O. Box 564, Shirley, MA 01464.

There will also be a donation box at the pie sale.
