During the month of January, I am scheduled to donate my kidney to a lovely young friend named Liane. She has been on dialysis for over a year. Her kidneys have both shut down.

Many tests have shown that Liane and I are a perfect match for a kidney transplant. The surgery will take approximately five hours during five days in Bay State Medical Center with five weeks of recuperation.

I would like to publicly thank many in Townsend for making this all possible: Father Sean from St. John’s Church for helping me make the decision, Townsend Family Practice medical staff and Deluxe/NEBS where I have worked for over 28 years for allowing me the time off.

I especially would like to thank the Townsend Library/Senior Center for offering exercise, meditation and one stroke painting classes. Also, Michelle Goodwin’s School of Dance for Saturday morning Zumba classes and many delicious, healthy meals at Cliff’s Cafe.

The above have helped me lower my blood pressure, lose weight and learn to relax in order to make this kidney transplant possible!
