TEWKSBURY — Bromfield Middle School boys and girls participated in the 2nd annual Massachusetts State Cross Country Invitational, an event that drew over 1,300 runners from across the Commonwealth. Sophia Collins, Bromfield eighth grade runner, finished first in the eighth grade competition, completing the 1.7 mile course in 10:48.

Also competing in that race were Brianna Harte and K.J. Frost, who finished 23rd and 24th, respectively. Kate Toll, running in the seventh grade race, finished 18th, completing the course in 12:06.

The top finisher for the boys was Pryce Day, who finished fourth in the eighth grade race in 9:51. Nick Norcross was 34th, Phillip Kuong 36th, and Matt Polinour 70th.

Competing in the seventh grade boys race were Nick Steele (25th) and Brian Johnson (70th).

At the MidWach C League finals, the Bromfield girls varsity team finished second (67 points) to Narragansett (37). Collins was the Lady Trojans’ top finisher, placing eighth, followed by Mimi Narbonne (10th), Rachel Leicher (13th), Alice Kennedy (16th), and Harriet Hill (20th).

In the MidWach C boys final, Bromfield’s Nick Kronauer was the winner with a clocking of 19:41, followed by Ellis Toll (4th), Pryce Day (13th), Wiliam Sulleburger (18th), and Leo Pero (27th). The Bromfield boys also placed second in the league championship with 63 points while the Spartans tallied 47.

The final races for the cross country program will be the Central Mass. Championships that will be held at Gardner Golf Course Saturday, Nov. 16, and the MIAA All-State Championships on Nov. 19, also at Gardner.
