Pepperell Council on Aging nominates interim director, after one choice resigns

PEPPERELL — Former Pepperell Council on Aging Director Marcia Zaniboni is expected to return as interim director, contingent on a vote by selectmen scheduled for Wednesday night.

The Council on Aging made the nomination on Tuesday afternoon, at a meeting that drew several dozen seniors who were concerned about the future of the center

Director Sharon Mercurio left to take the job as the Council on Aging director in Acton. Activity Coordinator Lisa Ferolito had expressed interest in taking the interim position. But talks fell apart, according to Council on Aging Chairman Merle Green. Ferolito resigned on Friday, citing the lack of support by the board.

Council on Aging members have been taking turns to station at the Senior Center to keep it open with the help of volunteers and a part-time office worker.

Zaniboni was first appointed as the Pepperell Council on Aging director in 1998 and left the position in 2003 to become the elderly housing manager in Littleton. She has lived in Pepperell since 1984 and has 26 years of experience in senior care.

The Council on Aging is in the process of recruiting applicants for the permanent director position.
