The Shirley Educational Foundation would like to thank all of those involved with the fourth annual “Ready, SEF, Go!” 5K and 2K trail runs on the picturesque Holdenwood property adjacent to Shirley’s Town Common.

SEF would like to thank the Holden Family for the use of their property, our sponsors, and, especially the runners. This event was made possible by the love that a handful of local runners had for this race. This year’s chairperson, Kristan, and her husband John spearheaded an effort that involved too many others to name, and brought more than 200 trail runners and walkers to Holdenwood on a beautiful Sunday morning that benefited SEF’s funding of programs that will enhance the Shirley Public School System.

A special thank-you goes out to our partner, the Play Board of Shirley, for their efforts on the Day of Play, which followed our trail runs.

SEF would like to announce its fall grant cycle. An application can be found on Shirley’s public school website under SEF’s page at,

SEF plans to start reviewing applications as soon as Oct. 22. Depending on the number of applications approved and the amounts granted, the grant cycle could close or become a rolling grant cycle. SEF would like to encourage students, teachers, parents, and others to submit their ideas, their dreams, and out-of-the-box concepts in an on-going effort to enhance our school district while inspiring one child at a time to reach beyond his/her comfort zone.
