WESTMINSTER — Joseph “Kevin” Carroll, 62, of Westminster, formerly of Ayer, passed away Sunday, Oct. 10, in the Highlands.

Kevin was born in Ayer on June 8, 1948, son of the late John L. and Teresa (Cornellier) Carroll.

He graduated from Ayer High School and went on to attend Boston College. He worked as a firefighter in Ayer for many years.

Kevin was a sergeant on the Shirley Police Department, and after his retirement, he became a U.S. Marshall in Boston and a Court Officer for the Federal Court in Boston.

Among his many accomplishments, Kevin was an Eagle Scout and leader of Troop 3 in Ayer. Kevin was a member of the park department and also a little league coach. He was also a member of the Ayer Rod and Gun Club and an avid hunter, who enjoyed hunting behind Nashoba Hospital. He was very involved in St. Mary’s Church, serving as an altar boy, usher, and catechism teacher. While living in Westminster, he was also a member of St. Edwards Church, and also the Senior Center. Kevin enjoyed camping with his family, whom he loved very much. He was also an avid movie fan and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Kevin truly enjoyed life and will be greatly missed.

Kevin leaves his two sons, Joseph ‘Jody’ K. Carroll Jr. of Fitchburg, Jason K. Carroll of Fitchburg; a daughter, Angela D. Carroll of Leominster; his former wife, Cheryl LeRiche of Shirley; a brother, John “Jack” Carroll and his wife JoLea of Orlando, FL; three grandchildren, Jameson K. and Jaxon D Carroll, both of Fitchburg, and Alexa G. Green of Worcester; a nephew, J.J. Carroll of Alabama; a Niece, Stephanie Bednar of FL, and he also leaves his caregivers, John Courtney and Edie Rice of Westminster.

Kevin was predeceased by his sister Mary Carroll and also by his caregiver, Maria Courtney.

Calling hours will be Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m. in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg. A prayer service will follow the calling hours at 7 p.m.
