Ayer promotes Go Greener contest, chance to win prizes

AYER — People from as far away as Lowell came to St. Andrew’s Church on 10-10-10 to Go Greener and win prizes. Our door-prize winner from Shirley walked away with a new smart strip, water savings devices and a reusable bag donated by Littleton Electric Light and Water departments.

We have many more prizes to give away, including two nights for two at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Green Resort in Crawford Notch, N.H. We also just received a donation of a pass for four to the Acton Discovery Museum!

Our next prize giveaway will be a compost bin donated by the Ayer Recycling Committee in honor of the Ayer Recycling and Reuse Day on Oct. 23, so sign up now! We have many other prizes to give away.

It’s easy to join.

* E-mail or visit for a sign-up sheet.

* The sign-up sheet has a list of ways you can start to save energy today at home, each with a point value.

* Start saving energy and tally up your points, then submit the form by pressing the “submit” button in the top right corner. This is an honor system for energy conservation!

* For every 10 points you earn, you get another entry to win prizes.

People who have already taken the first steps can get credit for those steps. We encourage you to have as many entries as possible. All qualifying participants will receive a special discount on select energy-saving devices from Moore’s Lumber in Ayer.

Kids can play too! See the Kids Entry form.

Plan to take part in other Go Greener events this fall (worth 5 points each) including Wall-E on Oct. 22, Climate Change and Energy Conservation Program for Families on Nov. 9, and a sneak-peek screening of the film Carbon Nation on Dec. 7, all at the St. Andrew’s Parish Hall.

The 10-10-10 event at St. Andrew’s was one of 7347 events that took place in 188 countries worldwide as part of the International Global Work party. More information is at
