LOWELL — A Pepperell man was one of two arrested and charged with an armed robbery in Lowell earlier this week.

Police were called to the 7-Eleven at Princeton Boulevard and Wood Street at 10 p.m., for a report that a man was robbing the store at knifepoint and that the store clerk had run from the store — leaving several customers still inside with the suspect.

Officers arrived and learned from witnesses that a white male in a white shirt and jeans had dropped his knife inside the store and fled in a green Buick.

Witnesses gave police the license-plate number of the getaway car. Several minutes later, Officer Billy Finn, while on routine patrol, spotted the car on Lawrence Street at Charles Street and pulled it over.

Wayne Destefano, 25, of 21 Pine St., Pepperell, and Rafael Nieves, 37, no fixed address, were both arrested and charged with armed robbery while masked.

The men were arraigned Tuesday in Lowell District Court.
