Education foundation to run Octoberfest 5K Road Race, Walk and Kids Run

DUNSTABLE — The Groton Dunstable Education Foundation is gearing up for another busy year of events and fundraising to support this year’s enrichment grants to our district schools. On Sunday, Oct. 3, GDEF launches a new event for the whole family, the Octoberfest 5K Road Race, Walk and Kids Run, at Larter Memorial Field, Groton Street, Dunstable.

The 5K road race and walk will take place on a certified course (formerly the Firecracker 5K) and the Kids Run features races for grades K-6 on the Larter track. The walk begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K Run at 9 a.m. and kids races beginning at 10:30 a.m.

“GDEF is grateful for the outpouring of support from area businesses for our schools, despite the difficult economy. We hope our community will patronize our generous event sponsors,” said GDEF Director and Race Coordinator Sarah Eisenklam.

The current list includes: Gold Level — Stonehedge Inn & Spa of Tyngsboro and Lowell General Hospital/Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center; Silver Level — Bemis Associates; Bronze Level — BHP Movers, Buckingham Bus Co., Goss Farm, GD Youth Basketball League, GD Youth Softball League, Guarino’s and South Shore Gunite Pools and Spas, Main Street Café, Prestidge Marketing LLC; Friends Level — Bailey’s Bar & Grille, Common Ground Mediation — June Adams Johnson, Groton Integrated Therapies, Jump On In, Reichheld Ting Orthodontics, Seasons at Calmore, Shaw’s of Groton, and Veryfine Products. Thanks also to Stephen Bentley Design for contributing the event logo.

GDEF’s fall grants cycle is open with applications due in early November. Teachers and other staff, as well as parents and community organizations, are encouraged to apply for minigrants in amounts of up to $500, and applications can be found on our website.
