Sculpture Walk Opening Day at Old Frog Pond
Farm in Harvard
Lowell sculptor Patrick Pierce will be exhibiting at the popular Sculpture Walk at Old Frog Pond Farm, 38 Eldridge Road in Harvard. The opening is on Sunday, Sept. 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. Twenty sculptors in all from all over New England will exhibit their art outdoors in the beautiful setting of this organic apple and raspberry farm.
Along with viewing the art along the Sculpture Walk, visitors will have the opportunity to meet some of the artists and enjoy bluegrass music by the local band, Still River. Taking center stage this year will be the permanent installation of Blase Provitola’s new Medicine Wheel. Built with large standing rough granite stones, it marks the four directions, solstices and equinoxes and creates sacred space for gatherings and ceremony. And of course, there’s picking of organic apples and raspberries!
There is no fee for admission. The sculpture walk will be open every weekend through Columbus Day from 1 to 5 p.m. for self-guided tours.
Old Frog Pond Farm is the only certified organic pick-your-own apple orchard in the state. The orchard and raspberry patch are open Wednesday thru Sunday 10 – 5 pm for picking.

Grieving and Healing Journey Through Grief
Nashoba Nursing Service & Hospice provides a safe and comfortable environment to express the thoughts and feelings you may experience due to the loss of a loved one. Joining a grief support group can be a healthy step in working through your grief at your own pace and assist in your recovery. Topics of grief and healing will be discussed.
Journey Through Grief groups will meet for six weeks on Thursdays.
Daytime sessions will meet from 10-11:30 a.m.
Evening sessions will meet from 6-7:30 p.m.
The first series will be held Sept. 23 and 30, Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28.
The second series will be held Nov. 4, 11 and 18, Dec. 2, 9, and 16

Tours of Shirley
The Shirley Historical Society will lead narrated tours of the Shirley Shaker Village on Sundays, Sept. 12 and Oct. 10, starting at 1 p.m. in Building No. 20 on MCI property. Since this 200-year-old historic site is part of the state prison system, access is limited. The property was once home to 150 men, women, and children who lived, worked, and worshipped together. They built large dwellings, workshops, and barns. The Shirley Shakers made brooms, mops, and applesauce to be sold to provide any food or other goods that they could not make themselves. They packaged spices and seeds, kept diaries, and wrote songs. Every Shaker had a job to do, putting their hands to work while they gave their hearts to God. In 1909 the property was sold to the state of Massachusetts to be used as an Industrial School for Boys. In the 1970s the Boys School closed and the prison opened. Since then, a medium security and maximum security prison have been erected on the site.
The cost is $15 to learn about Shaker history and go inside three of the old Shaker buildings. Special tours can be arranged for groups of 8 or more. High-school graduates or students who have earned a GED and who live in Nashoba Tech’s seven-district towns — Chelmsford, Groton, Littleton, Pepperell, Shirley, Townsend and Westford — as well as Ayer, are eligible to enroll, tuition-free, in Nashoba Tech’s Postgraduate Certificate Program.
Nashoba Tech offers postgraduate programs in Automotive Collision Repair and Refinishing; Automotive Technology; Banking, Marketing and Retail; Carpentry and Cabinetmaking; Cosmetology; Culinary Arts/Hotel and Restaurant Management; Dental Assisting; Design and Visual Communications; Electrical Technology; Electronics/Robotics; Engineering Technology; Health Assisting/Early Education and Care; Machine Tool Technology; Plumbing and Heating; and TV and Media Production/Theater Arts.
The postgraduate program at Nashoba Tech will provide students with the same real-world skills, licenses and certificates they would receive at a community college, but at no charge.

LPA Kids Stuff Tag/
How about turning those gently-used baby/children’s clothing (age birth -12 years), toys, baby equipment, sporting goods, maternity items, and books into cash?! Don’t miss the annual Littleton Parents Association’s Kids Stuff Tag/Bake Sale on Saturday, Oct. 2, from 8 a.m. to noon at Littleton Middle School, 55 Russell St., Littleton. In case of rain, the sale will be held inside the school’s cafeteria.
The space rental fee is $20. A maximum of two families can share one space, if desired. All proceeds from these space rental fees, after our advertising costs, will be donated to the Shaker Lane Elementary School to purchase curriculum materials for the kindergartners. We’ll do all the advertising for the tag sale. All you need to do is bring a table and items to sell. The items must be kid-related… no household items, please. All proceeds from your table are yours to keep. Unsold items are your responsibility and cannot be left at the school.
Don’t have anything to sell? Then come and find yourself a bargain! While you shop, stop for a snack at our bake sale. Cookies, cupcakes, brownies and other munchies will be available for purchase, and all proceeds from the bake sale will be donated to the Shaker Lane Elementary School to buy curriculum materials for the kindergartners.

29th Townsend Fall Fair

The Townsend Historical Society is sponsoring the 29th annual Arts and Crafts Fair on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. -4 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fair is a very popular event and traditionally attracts artists and crafters from all over New England. The fair will be held at Townsend Common, 263 Main St., at the junction of routes 13 and 119. There will be a food court, free parking, and restroom facilities. It is a rain or shine event.
