GROTON — Lera Lou G. (Wolner) Dishington, 67, of Britt Lane, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, at her home after a lengthy struggle with acute myelogenous leukemia.

Mrs. Dishington was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Feb. 24, 1943, the daughter of Harlan and Eva Lou (Shoemaker) Wolner, and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She resided in Tewksbury before moving to Groton 22 years ago.

She leaves her husband of 42 years, James E. Dishington; her daughter, Lorinda L. Dishington Ortiz and her husband Carlos Ortiz of Leominster; and her brother, Dan Wolner of Bloomington, Minnesota.

She was a graduate of Washburn High School, Minneapolis, Minnesota and continued her education at the University of Minnesota where she received a Bachelor of Arts and Masters degrees in Latin and Spanish. In addition, she studied abroad at the University of Madrid, Madrid, Spain, and the University of Vera Cruz, Mexico.

For the past six years, Mrs. Dishington taught Latin at North Middlesex Regional High School in Townsend. Prior to going to North Middlesex, she taught Latin and Spanish for 24 years at Groton-Dunstable Regional High School and Middle School in Groton.

She was an active member of St. James Church in West Groton and had been active in several ecumenical groups. She was a member of the American Classical League and the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages.

She very much enjoyed traveling but her greatest joy was teaching.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 16, at St. James Church, St. James Avenue, West Groton. Burial will be private.
