Starting June 23, we’re having “Making Pictures” classes with local artist Don Reed. This six-week set of classes will start with the basics of how to make pictures and enjoy what you do. All material will be supplied as part of the fee. Later this year we will expand these classes and other local artists may be adding classes on oil painting or other forms of art. There are a limited number of places available so sign up soon. The fee is $3 per class, payable at the time of the class.
Also, our crafts classes are a huge success. We have a wide variety of classes planned and more to come. Stop by on Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. and learn a new skill, renew a skill you haven’t tried in years, teach someone else a skill or just stop by and enjoy the company. July will see a whole new set of crafts being taught. Don’t miss out on the fun. Sign up now at the senior center activities bulletin board.
Starting in July, we will be creating “Cribbage Time” at the senior center. We know a lot of seniors like to play and we will be having an area set aside for cribbage players on the first and third Wednesdays of each month from 1 to 3 p.m. in the activities area. We have the cards and the boards, you provide the energy. If there is interest, we may be able to run a fall tournament to see who is the real champion player in Shirley.
All the seniors love chair yoga so we will be having a second set of eight classes held on Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m. The fee is still $25 for Shirley seniors. Again, space is limited. Sign up now.
Tai-chi continues to draw big crowds. We are planning on having another round of classes beginning in August. The fee is $30 for eight classes, held Thursdays at 11 a.m. Put the time and place on your calendar now.
With both the chair yoga and the tai-chi, if there are enough seniors interested, we will be offering them on a second day and time each week. No day has been selected but if you would like to take either class, please let us know so we can make plans now.
Your senior center is active and we look forward to you joining in the activities.
