Wedding trousseaus next at Shirley Historical Museum

Wedding trousseaus is the topic for the next Shirley Historical Society program on Saturday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Society Museum, 182 Center Road in Shirley.

On display will be wedding dresses from the 1800s AND wedding gowns from the 1920s and the 1940s. The tradition of bridal dowries will be discussed. The custom of a fiancé giving his bride-to-be a hope chest will be discussed and samples of items found in hope chests will be on display. Refreshments will match the bridal theme.

If anyone has anything else to loan for the display, they need to bring it to the Museum on Monday, July 5 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The display will remain up through early September.

Benjamin Hill Park now open

Facilities include pool with lifeguards, toys, chairs and shade; pool house with restrooms, changing areas and showers; snack bar, indoor seating, outdoor picnic area; the Mystical Maze Playground. Fully handicapped-accessible. Pool hours are 1 to 7 p.m., no child under 12 admitted to the pool without a responsible adult or baby-sitter present.

Check Shirley town web site for membership and day fees. The park is located at 93 Benjamin Hill Road, Shirley.

Well adult clinic

Nashoba Associated Boards of Health, in conjunction with the Shirley Board of Health, announces that a well adult clinics will be held on Tuesday, July 20, from 9:30-11 a.m. at Shaker Meadows (community room) Harvard Road. Shirley. Drop in for blood pressure, pulse screening and diet teaching. No appointment is necessary.
