BRIEFS

From the Ayer Business Alliance…

Classic Car Nights

Sponsored by the Ayer Downtown Business Alliance with assistance from Gervais Ford, Ayer takes place the third Wednesday of every month through September from 6 to 8 p.m., or until the sun goes down! Taste the hot dogs and hamburgers for sale. Hear the oldies tunes. See the beautiful classic cars and spread the word. All are welcome. Money raised fund the alliance’s year-round activities downtown.

Fourth Thursdays: Seeking artists

There is also something NEW in town. Starting June 24, on the fourth Thursday of every month there will be an Art Walk down Main Street, Central Ave. and Park Street. Everyone’s invited to attend, take a walk around and view the artists’ work. Artists are asked to get a hold of someone from the Ayer Business Alliance or go to WWW.SHOPAYER.COM to get a registration form. This is a new event to Ayer with hopes it will grow into something big.

Open Mike Night: Looking for musicians

If you love music, we are starting an Open Mike Night at the Billiards Cafe at 39 Main St., Ayer. We’re looking for musicians and people in general to attend. It’s going to be a full night of local musicians doing what they do best: entertaining. Calvin is going to put all appetizers on sale for half-price for everyone to kick it all off. This Open Mike Night will be held every second Wednesday of the month and starts at 7 p.m. Bring as many friends and relatives as you like and make it a great time for all.

DPW changing hours

Effective through Sept. 10, the Department of Public Works office will be open to the public Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Mosquito spraying

The Central Mass Mosquito Control Project (CMMCP) will be spraying in our community on: July 12, 19 and 26.

Please call CMMCP at 508-393-3055 if you would like to be excluded. Additional information can be found at www.cmmcp.org.

‘Reading is magic’

Ed the Wizard will appear with his program, “Reading is Magic,” at the Ayer Public Library on Tuesday, July 20, at 5:30 p.m.

Using many volunteers, Ed, the Wizard weaves reading and magic together along with laughter using a bit of comedy and suspense. With reading as the emphasis behind each magical performance, he tells folks of all ages that reading is indeed the key to his, and to their success.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Ayer Cultural Council, a local agency that is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Community Supper to donate profits to Loaves and Fishes

The Community Second Saturday Supper at the Federated Church of Ayer will be held in the air conditioned Fellowship Hall of the church on July 10. Each month we donate 100 percent of the profits made on these dinners to a mission. This month the money will go to help Loaves and Fishes, a local food pantry. The church also supports this mission with food donations from the Movies for Missions project held for families on the last Saturday of most months.

You are invited to visit our Web site at www.ayerfedchurch.org to learn more about our mission donations.

Don’t feel like cooking on these warm summer evenings? Join us for a delicious supper in an air conditioned hall.

The menu for our July 10 Second Saturday Supper will start with a tossed salad and feature pork roast, a vegetable, and potato. Rolls and drinks accompany the meal. The supper will be served from 5:30 to 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church.

A free dessert and movie will follow the supper. Due to the limitations of our movie license, we are unable to publicize the title in advance. You can find out the movie title each month by calling the church office at 978-772-2044 between 9 and 12, Tuesday through Friday.

All are welcome. The cost for the Supper will be $8 for adults (2 for $15), $4 for ages 5-12, and free for those under 5. The church is located at 21 Washington St. in Ayer. The church is handicapped accessible from the rear. There is a parking lot to the rear of the church as well as a few designated spots in the Newton/Washington Street lot. Parking is also permitted on side streets and in front of the church.
