GROTON — Firefighters from Groton and surrounding towns battled a second brush fire in a week in the woods over the Ayer town line. No homes are threatened as the fire is deep in the woods off Sandy Pond Road, according to Groton Police Chief Donald Palma. The fire is about 3 miles away from the previous one that burned 12 acres near the Long Pond between Monday and Tuesday, Palma said.

Palma believes the fire started about 3 p.m. Wednesday. Further details were not immediately available.
