TOWNSEND — A full schedule of movies will be offered in the Meeting Hall during July. Family films will be shown on July 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 10:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Titles are available on the events page at www.TownsendLibrary.org.
Movies that are part of the adult summer reading program will be shown on Fridays at 7:30 p.m. starting July 9 with the 1940 screwball comedy, “His Girl Friday,” starring Cary Grant, Rosalind Russell and Ralph Bellamy, adapted from the play, “The Front Page.”
On Friday, July 16, “Amelie,” with Audrey Tautou, rated R, in French with English subtitles, will be shown.
The 1946 film noir, “The Big Sleep,” will be featured on July 23. Directed by Howard Hawks, with William Faulkner as co-author of the screenplay, it’s the first film version of Raymond Chandler’s 1939 novel and stars Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. In 1997, the U.S. Library of Congress added it to the National Film Registry.
The last of the series on July 30 will be “Together (He ni zai yi qi),” the story of a violin prodigy and his father who travel to Beijing. The 2002 movie is in Mandarin with English subtitles, rated PG.
