WORCESTER — Charter Communications recently held its Scholar Athlete Awards, now celebrating its 26th year, and granted $13,000 in scholarships to 12 graduating seniors. Congratulations go out to the following students who received scholarships during the awards presentation.
Brian Ayers of Southborough/St. Mark’s School: $2,000; Emily Lemmerman of Northborough/Algonquin Regional HS: $1,500; Ofir Nachum of Northborough/Algonquin Regional HH: $1,500; Julia Catalini of Pepperell/North Middlesex Regional HS: $1,500; Brian Perron of Auburn/St. John’s HS: $1,000; Ryan O’Leary of Millbury/Millbury Memorial Jr./Sr. HS: $1,000; Sarah Collins of Harvard/The Bromfield School: $1,000; Samantha Copland of Uxbridge/Uxbridge HH: $1,000; Tiler Brisbois of Douglas/Douglas HS: $500; Pablo Larrea of Worcester/University Park Campus School: $500; Emily Davis of Hollis, NH/Hollis Brookline HS: $500; Nicole Hunter of Upton/Nipmuc Regional: $500.
Charter received over 100 student applications that fit criteria established for the scholarship. The judging panel reviewing all applications were: Kevin Shea, Charter TV3 Sports Director: Bill Gibbons/College of the Holy Cross Women’s Head Basketball Coach; Jim Wilson/Worcester Telegram & Gazette Sports Reporter, and Bob Stewart/Groton Herald & Hollis Times editor, publisher.
The local high schools in the Charter serviceable areas in Central and Western, Massachusetts along with the towns of Hollis and Brookline, New Hampshire were eligible to nominate one male and one female who are both outstanding academic and athletic achievers at their school. The nominations were submitted by coaches, guidance counselors or athletic directors from each school.
The Charter Communications Scholar Athlete Awards TV show will air Thursdays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., plus Fridays and Sundays at 10:30 p.m., June 17 through Aug. 22 on Charter TV3.
