FEMA Disaster assistance registration deadline, June 28

PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

The final date for registering for disaster assistance for homeowners, renters, business owners in Counties of Essex, Middlesex, Norfolk, Suffolk, Plymouth and Worcester who were affected by flooding beginning March 12 is by June 28. People can apply by phone by calling 1-800-621-3362 or online www.DisasterAssistance.gov. Hearing or speech-impaired can TTY 800-462-7585. You must have the following information when you call: A phone number in case to be reached, a Social Security number, a current mailing address, address of damaged property, brief description of the damages and insurance information if you have insurance.

The U. S. Small Business Administration along with FEMA want people to keep their disaster assistance options open. They recommend if you were sent a loan application to complete it and return as soon as possible. There are low-interest loans available to provide funds for losses not covered by insurance. If you are approved for a loan, you are under no obligation to take it. If SBA is unable to approve you for a disaster home loan, they will automatically refer you back to FEMA for additional help.
