SHIRLEY — A recent rash of vandalism reports townwide includes several vehicle break-ins, acting Police Chief Gregory Massak said. In some cases items were stolen.

Such incidents are not uncommon in the area and the town has had its share in the past. But residents can reduce the odds by taking simple security precautions, Massak said.

Even without an alarm system in the vehicle, locked doors can discourage thieves. Massak urged people to lock their parked cars — even at home — and to take valuables and other articles with them when they leave the vehicle.
