In 2005, the Planning Board and Comprehensive Plan Implementation Committee adopted a new comprehensive plan for the town of Ayer. It is designed to bring the community together with 21st-century opportunities. This year, the board has been working to prepare initiatives that will implement key recommendations of the comprehensive plan, in the form of extensive amendments to the zoning bylaws. The work is being carried out with a Chapter 43D expedited permitting grant from the Commonwealth, in conjunction with the consulting firm Community Opportunities Group (COG), with the firm’s Planning Director Judi Barrett, as project manager, and Project Planner Angela Insinger. The same firm prepared Ayer’s comprehensive plan, which creates a desirable continuity in plan implementation. Some of the initiatives could come forward as early as a fall special Town Meeting. Others could be addressed at next year’s Town Meeting.

The Planning Board offers frequent updates of its efforts on the town’s Web site, www.ayer.ma.us/index.html. Responses are encouraged.
