Pepperell VFW Post 3291 wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to the community of Pepperell for its outstanding response to Memorial Day programs again this year.

This year you have truly outdone yourselves. We want to recognize Mr. Tickenoff and the Nissitissit choir for their hard work and hospitality, and Dr. Cormier and the Varnum Brook School for its “standing room only” program last Friday. There were two wonderful music presentations and a “Skype” video conference between two Varnum Brook students and their fathers in Iraq!

It’s hard to keep your composure at that school; the kids just steal your heart away. We thank Pepperell Boy and Girl Scouts, leaders and parents who sacrificed a glorious Saturday morning to honor our fallen heroes and place flags on veterans graves, while at the same time teaching a lesson to the children that will last a lifetime.

We thank Selectman Joe Sergi for helping secure and coordinate the flyover by the 104th Fighter Squadron on Monday, and Selectman Patrick McNabb for such a moving and very well researched speech that was received by a crowd so respectful “you could hear a pin drop.”

We thank Mike Green of 1A Auto and the Pepperell Superior Officers and Patrolmans Police Union for funding the parade expenses this year. The community of Pepperell has truly set a standard of excellence for the American spirit that is rare.

Communities such as this are the reason that the phrase “small-town America” holds such a place of honor in the American lexicon.

God bless you and thanks to the community of Pepperell.
