AYER — The Board of Selectmen’s Town Administrator Screening Committee conducted closed-door interviews this week of applicants to compile a list of five finalists for selectmen, with two reserve candidates on standby in the event one of the final five falls through for whatever reason.
Ayer had 66 applicants to become the next town administrator. In the meantime, the selectmen hired Jeff Ritter of Medway to serve in an interim capacity. Ritter has not stated whether or not he’s seeking the permanent Ayer post.
Meanwhile, Ritter remains in the final five under consideration to become Auburn’s first town manager after the town voted to switch from a town administrator form of government. Ritter remains in the mix along with Auburn’s prior town administrator, Charles O’Connor, who’s stayed aboard in an interim capacity until that town’s selectmen make their final decision.
Auburn Selectmen Chairman Robert Grossman said that Ritter and the other four were publicly interviewed May 28, and that the Auburn board would meet again this Thursday, June 3, to whittle that town’s finalist list from five “to two or three.”
