Robert A. Harris, 57, died unexpectedly on April 25 at the Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer.

He was born September 4, 1952 in Fitchburg, son of the late Roger A. and Virginia (Duckworth) Harris.

Bob was a lifetime resident of Shirley and a graduate of Ayer High class of 1970. He retired after 20 years from active duty with the Massachusetts Army National Guard.

At the time of his death he had been employed for the past 14 years at Mass Development, Devens, in the Department of Public Works.

He was a longtime member and board of directors member for the Shirley Rod & Gun Club, and an avid outdoorsman. He loved spending time with his family and golden retrievers at his camp in Hudson, Maine.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Susan L. (Spofford) Harris, his daughter Sara (Harris) Wetherbee and her husband Bradford H. Wetherbee of Ashburnham, sister Barbara (Harris) Childress, niece Mary E. Childress, nephew Jason P. Childress, all of Shirley, and a large extended family. He was also predeceased by his brother Roger A. Harris Jr.

Visiting hours will be held Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St., Groton. Funeral services will be private.
