To address a projected $2,442 shortfall in the Tree Warden’s budget, the Finance Committee unanimously approved the transfer of $386.05 at their April 14 meeting. However, the board held off transferring an additional $2,100 to the warden’s budget, as that request was not accompanied by a bill for services but was based on an estimate.
On a second reserve fund transfer request from the Board of Selectmen, the committee held off transferring a requested $2,000 to fund the hiring of an interim Town Administrator.
As to the requirement that reserve fund transfers are only for unexpected budgeting events, committee member Jesse Reich summarized that it “looks like an unexpected Town Administrator left,” sparking the qualification for the requested transfer. Overruns occurred in the selectmen’s budget for advertising for the vacancy, paying approximately $9,300 in accumulated vacation time to Shaun Suhoski on his departure and funding Interim Town Administrator Jeff Ritter’s $92,000 salary.
Committee chairman Brian Muldoon pondered if there’d be a need for another transfer if the permanent hire is made by the end of the fiscal year on June 30.
