The 26th Annual Good Friday Walk will be held on Friday, April 2. This is the single largest annual fundraiser for Loaves & Fishes, and we need walkers, supporters, and volunteers to work on the day of the walk. The Walk starts any time from 7:30 a.m. on, and leaves from a new location this year — St. Theresa Church, just a few doors down from the Congregational Church on the Harvard Common (there will be plenty of signs to show you where to start). The walk is a 5-mile loop, and you can go as far as you like. It’s hilly, so practice up a bit so your muscles are in shape.
Loaves & Fishes is the largest food pantry in North Central Massachusetts, providing food, clothing and referral services to almost 600 families in Littleton, Ayer, Harvard, Shirley, Devens and Groton. We have seen our client base jump by 45 percent in the last two years, while donations have been down by as much as 30 percent due to the economy.
How can you help your neighbors in need? Either join the walk (walk papers are available at most local churches and libraries, or at www. loavesfishespantry.org), support a walker, or help in the kitchen or at the registration desk on the day of the walk. Remember, every dollar we raise for the pantry will be used to purchase food or to help provide emergency services.
The other beneficiary of the walk is Sharing, Inc., a charity that helps impoverished families in the rural South. They will receive a relatively small percentage of the proceeds, so most of your donation will be staying locally.
